Hello Family
Well May 1st is here.
As you all know we are having events all across the country. From Cleveland, to California, Indiana, Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Oklahoma, Alaska, New Mexico and Oregon. I hope I didn’t miss anyone, please let me know if I have.
Many states have already had events and ceremonies.
From candle light vigils, Prayer breakfasts, bike runs, proclamation signings and ceremonies, visits to Vets homes and V.A. hospitals our members are spreading out and honoring our wounded.
As a group we have changed the face of a Nation, insured that the SSFOA is here to stay and most importantly elevated the awareness of the Nation to the plight of our wounded kids.
This project has been a long time coming and took the work of many people to pull off. If I named them all I would miss someone for sure but this I want you to know: I am so proud of you all and on behalf of our wounded kids I thank you.
Final count of states, who have either signed a proclamation, sent a letter of support or who have passed legislative resolutions is not yet in and may not be for quite some time. Suffice it to say we will be in the 40’s with numerous cities joining us.
Some states used our sample proclamation almost to the letter while other states reworded them. Some took discussion before we added them to our support group.
One state sent a letter so vague that we simply could not count it as a letter of support. (Arizona)
But all is all the project has been an overwhelming success. We have gotten new members, new state reps and many banner requests from wounded we would never have reached other wise. By the way, now is the time to send all original proclamations to National if we do not have yours.
Now is the time for us to capitalize on the success of this project. Now is the time for us to follow up with action and not just words. Let’s reach out to our wounded where ever they are and make sure they are remembered and honored.
When the article in the American Legion Aux. Magazine comes out, and it may be out now, the SSFOA will again be on the National stage. If anyone hasn’t heard of us by now they soon will.
National is gearing up in expectation of a flood of Silver Star Banner requests. This is our mission.
Now is the time to renew our efforts.
Again, I thank you all. Without YOU there is no SSFOA. What an outstanding group of wonderful people.
With God’s grace let us now go forward.
To all of you and to all our wounded:
HAPPY SILVER STAR DAY
Steve Newton
President, SSFOA
