CHRISTMAS 2006
Well here we go. National has committed to sending a care package to a military hospital, a V.A. facility or a Combat Support Hospital to every State in the Union AND Germany and Iraq.
When this idea was first floated around I had no idea if we could accomplish this. Three things fell in place. Cathy, Sheila and Shawna committed to finding the names and addresses of medical facilities in the U.S.
A member pledged to pay for the shipping, since our donations have been almost non existent.
Last but not least we had to determine if we had the items to fill the boxes.
I know that sending care packages is NOT our primary mission and we will attempt to do this in between sending out Banners and our other on going jobs. But I know that each of you would love to make sure the wounded has a good Christmas.
So. Today the first ten of 52 boxes left National. 15 more boxes are filled and ready to go with a little more work. So we are almost half way to our goal and we have two more weeks to do this.
Here are the States we did today.
Missouri
Maryland
Maine
North Carolina
New York
California
Texas
Oklahoma
Virginia
South Carolina
More shipments soon!
Ok Folks. How can you help?
Simple. I will keep you informed of what States we have sent packages to. You can send your own package to a State we have not yet gotten to. You can also send a box to a State we have already done by checking with National to make sure we don’t cover the same facility.
You can send items to National to help fill the boxes here. But most importantly we simply need funds.
This is a huge project for an organization that does not specialize in care packages folks. We need your help to give the wounded a good Christmas.
Ok, here is the press release as it stands and be sure to click on the picture below. Bless his heart, that is Mr. Sexton our Post Master picking up the first shipment.
God bless all and let’s move forward together.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Silver Star Families of America, an organization founded to honor the wounded of our Armed Forces, has launched on its most ambitious projects to date.
An organization that honors the wounded by presenting them with a Silver Star Banner has decided that it is going all out for Christmas. Steve Newton, founder of the organization says, “While care packages is not our primary mission we do not want to forget our wounded at Christmas time. We are going to attempt to send a care package to a military hospital, V.A. Center or a Combat Supp ort Hospital in every State of the Union, Germany and Iraq.”
“Our primary mission is to honor and remember our wounded from all wars by presenting them with the Silver Star Banner for the wounded. We have given out hundreds of Banners and scores of Flags. But the members of our organization wanted to do something special for Christmas,” said Steve Newton.
Steve Newton continued by saying, “This will be in addition to our everyday mission. The 55 or 60 boxes going out will be worked on in between sending Banners and Flags.”
The care packages vary in content from books, signed CD’s, socks, hats, letters, playing cards, candy, t-shirts, toothbrushes, stocking caps, toiletries, writing paper, ink pens, Christmas cards and whatever else that has been donated.
The Christmas project is expected to be completed by the second week of December.
If you have been wounded in an active war zone or incurred a life changing illness, including PTSD, you may visit www.silverstarfamilies.org and request a Banner.
“We fill all requests from all wars as long as the discharge was honorable. When we run out of Banners we start a waiting list until the funds come in to fulfill a request. Thank the Lord we have never turned down a wounded Soldier yet,” said Steve Newton.
The Silver Star Families of America is a 501 (C) (3) organization and accepts donations at the above web site. If you wish to sponsor a Banner for a Soldier please visit the SSFOA.
